'Buffet for Bees'
Bulbs in the Community

Buffet for Bees is part of the DCs for Bees initiative.

Following on from the huge success of our Orchards in the Community Programme, our DCs for Bees Ambassadors have come up with an amazing initiative that we are so excited to get behind: Buffet for Bees - Bulbs in the Community.

The goal is simple but challenging -  Plant 1 million early flowering bulbs across Ireland that will provide a much needed food source for our bees and pollinators.

They play a crucial role in supporting our declining pollinator populations. As they bloom early in the spring, they provide a vital source of nectar and pollen for our precious pollinators as they emerge from hibernation or overwintering.

But that's not all! Bulbs are not only hardy and adaptable but also versatile in various garden settings. Whether it's a rock garden, border, or a meadow or around orchards, they serve as an early food source and prevent grass cutting. And they can make fantastic employee gifts too!

Here's how you can get involved: by pledging to sponsor Buffet for Bees - Bulbs in the Community packs!

Why Bulbs?

Our Aim

To

Protect & Feed Pollinators

Bulbs blossom early in the year, providing an important food source for our pollinators at the end of winter.

Community Awareness & Action

We will provide a means for organisation & community purpose based activity which will foster an appreciation of, and awareness for, protecting and encouraging biodiverse habitats in our local areas.

The Role of Orchards

Orchards have played an important role in communities for many centuries, providing a focal point, a gathering space, and a place where people and nature successfully work together to create abundant harvests.

Orchards provide vital green spaces in our cities and towns, where people are encouraged to interact with nature either through becoming custodians of the trees or by simply being around them and enjoying their shade, beauty and fruit.
