ABOUT THE ROLE
The primary function of this role is to guide the product management cycle and influence the market in the critical power space in datacenters.
Principal areas of responsibility cover:
Research trends in the IT and Datacenter industries that could have an impact over the way electrical energy and heat are managed in datacenters, and over the way datacenters are built and managed over their lifecycle
Research new technologies available with Eaton ERLs, universities and other technology companies of all sizes
Work with BUs and KAMs to formulate possible future scenarios for various types of datacenters, and how Eaton can differentiate by designing the architecture offering the best value proposition to all stages of the datacenter design, build, operate and maintain players. Work with ERLs and BUs to make that architecture a reality
Interact frequently with important industry players to perform VoC, receive feedback on our offerings and influence their engineering choices.
Research the IT and datacenter industries and new technologies
Participate in major IT and datacenter technical conferences (trade of academic), talk to our customers’ business people and engineers, follow tech podcasts etc., to learn which topics are central and which are emerging
Regularly interact with partners (upstream, downstream, technology) to discuss industry trends and how they are thinking about them
Work with ERLs and university partners to understand what technologies are emerging, and establish research priorities
Represent Eaton in universities with major clusters of labs working on computer science and datacenters
Formulate possible future scenarios for various types of datacenters
Work with segment leaders to segment the datacenter industry by archetype
Formulate requirements and scenarios for each datacenter archetype that will serve as reference point for VoC, influence and research / NPD
Work with GPLs and Engineering leaders to create roadmaps aligned with scenarios
Actively contribute to the Eaton planning cycle, including Strat Plan, GPL waterline or direct involvement in important NPDs
Interact frequently with customers and partners
Conduct VoC to deepen our understanding of customers' constraints and requirements and influence their design
Work with partners on common designs to solve those constraints and satisfy the requirements
Engage with customers outside of bidding periods to discuss options and drive preferences for Eaton
Contribute directly to specific bids for the largest or most innovative customers
Regularly represent Eaton's view on datacenters in media and conferences
Represent the technical and economic vision of Eaton for the datacenters in public settings and with the press
Promote the point of view of Eaton with regulators and lawmakers as needed
Qualifications:
Master degree/diploma in Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering
15 years of experience as a leading engineer, experience in the datacenter industry
Deep knowledge of all the critical power chain systems. Working knowledge of construction methods and thermal management
Strong proven experience in the datacenter and IT industries
Experience in datacenter design and construction required
Strong proven experience in successful interactions with customers and influencers
High ability and experience in speaking publicly
Knowledge in product lines of Eaton Electrical segments and market would be a plus
Good knowledge and experience with typical go-to-market / datacenter ecosystem
Fluent English
Capacity to convince stakeholders externally and internally of need for change and lead the way forward
Capacity to obtain VoC from customers and partners, even when it contradicts our positions
Ease to work with various cultures and different types of customers
Ability to network at C level with our large channel partners and customers
